The Art & Creation

Artist ~ Performance Weaver

As a Performance and Interdisciplinary Artist; they explore the intersections between queer intimacy, playful choreographies,  Land-based sentience, curanderx medicine ways, and indigenous cosmologies. They are the “creative visionary” of Teatro De La Vida/ Theatre of Life, a fluid “performance-based healing ensemble” where the roads of ancestral arts and healing practices meet performance art and experimental theatre.

Along with their aforementioned practices, they share what they learn through video/photography, movement, sculpture, installation, writing, friendship, medicine making, "being", and other emergent forms.

Yoli’s art and art workshops has been hosted by DIY/ community spaces, dance parties, retreat spaces, Frieze LA, MASS MoCa, The Tulsa Artist Fellowship, Chan Gallery, and Pomona College’s Art Department as a guest lecturer. They have also been awarded residencies and grants through The Ghostlight Residency, The Golden Dome School, and BAAIT’s Two-Spirit Artist Mini Grant.

The Medicine

Embodiment Guide ~ Flower & Land Whisper

As an Embodiment Guide and Flower-Land Whisperer, Yoli is devoted to and shaped by their embodied research project and embodiment methodology centered on “El Cuerpo Presente”. “El Cuerpo Presente” (meaning the Present Body) refers to the connection between our body and the Land rooted in Curanderismo cosmologies. As an Embodiment Guide, Yoli creates space to connect to the Land, ours Body, and our Presence through mindfulness, play, herbal medicine, and land-body centered practices.

As a devotion to the ideals of paradise & sanctuary, they share spiritual guidance and hold spiritual space originally taught to them by the Land & their Spirit guides with roots and continued grounding in Curanderx & IndigiQueer traditions. As they continue to cultivate these gifts, they honor that they are meant for the purpose of our collective liberation and healing justice at the scale and pace of intimate connection. They share these gifts with this intention and perspective with discernment and honor. They are grateful to be able to share limpias, baños, and journeying with friends, family, and in their medicine communities.

Yoli has hosted land-based embodiment workshops in DIY spaces, with The Herbal Ginger Center, and with grassroots organizations such as the Arte Sana IndigiQueer Collective.

They currently are an organizer and creative wizard with the Healing Clinic Collective and, through this sacred work, they are participating and continuing the legacy of HCC’s approach to collective healing, healing justice, and ceremonial organizing.

poema

i am alive and breathing, sensing and feeling, escuchando al abueles de la tierra with the ears that live in my hands and feet and heart. Remembering mis raices, my roots- milpa constellations - mountain ombligos, umbilicals - hummingbird songs - human beings that care for the Earth and each other with firey tenderness. Embracing who i came to be- transforming - wilded - totality and absence - rainbowed - tortillerx - queer. Expressing thru the body and the emergent expressions that flower paradigms of care and connection to each other and the Madre Padres de la Tierra
